Abstract: Cardiovascular nursing is specialized nursing care focused on optimizing cardiovascular health across the life span and diverse practice settings through education, prevention, detection, and treatment of cardiovascular disease in individuals, families, communities, and populations. To do so, the evidence-based practice of cardiovascular nurses includes health promotion, disease management, care coordination, patient advocacy, interprofessional collaboration, and research to provide quality patience care. The publication's scope of practice addresses what is expected of all cardiovascular nurses, specifying the who, what, where, when, why and how context - the underlying assumptions, characteristics, environments and settings, education and training requirements, key issues and trends, and ethical and conceptual bases of cardiovascular nursing - needed to understand and use the standards. Those 16 standards, providing a framework for evaluating practice outcomes, and goals, area those by which all cardiovascular nurses are held accountable for their practice. The set of specific competencies accompanying each standard serves as evidence of minimal compliance with that standard. A foundational volume that is primarily for those directly involved with cardiovascular nursing practice, education, and research, other nursing and allied healthcare providers, researchers, and scholars will find value in this content. It is also a resource for employees, insurers, lawyers, policy makers, regulators, and stakeholders involved in cardiovascular care.
