ISSN Series: | Practical Approach to Anesthesia | Discipline: | Cardiovas Sys | Subject Definition: | Anesthesia-Methods; Cardiac Surgical Proced | NLM Class: | WG 460 | LC Class: | RD87.3 | Abstract: | This is the most widely-used clinical reference in cardiac anesthesia, which itself continues to be the most vibrant subspecialty in anesthesia. This large handbook serves effectively as a mid-range option between smaller handbooks and textbooks. Its outline format contains all the information on drugs, monitoring, cardiopulmonary bypass, circulatory support, and management of specific cardiac disorders necessary for residents, fellows in cardiac anesthesia, practitioners, and CRNAs. It incorporates clinically relevant basic science into a very clinical, "What-to-do" approach, and is thus popular with generalists who do some cardiac work (as almost all anesthesiologists do). It is used to study for the ABA boards and the SCA certifying exam. Paul Barash has said he doesn't see why anyone would need more than the Hensley book for their cardiac-specific reading. (As the co-editor of a large cardiac anesthesia text by LWW, this statement did not come easily to him.) |
