Abstract: | This book describes how pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) can be effectively used to make better decisions at each stage of drug discovery to minimize attrition and reduce the cost and duration of the drug discovery process. Organized in order of the decision points along the drug discovery process, the author moves from early preclinical stages to early development. He highlights the problems and issues encountered at each point and uses realistic examples of industrial scenarios to demonstrate approaches applying PK PD principles to resolve these challenges. Each section begins explaining the key problems, then moves to introduce relevant PK and/or PD, strategies to apply these concepts to solve the problems using simple calculations and intuitive deductions, and ends with examples of industrial applications. Each section concludes with interactive exercises simulating decision making, encouraging holistic and integrated thinking. |
